VDR Edge Service Ubuntu Update
On May 31st, 2023, Ubuntu 18.04, a distribution on which the Secureworks® Taegis™ VDR Edge Service is based on, will reach end-of-life (EOL) and will stop receiving regular software updates.
To ensure that your Edge Services are running with the most current stable and secure release you must redeploy your VDR Edge Services using an updated image based on the Ubuntu 22.04 release.
Important
Do not delete your existing Edge Service from VDR. Instead, regenerate the existing Edge Service using the Regenerate button next to the Edge Service listed on the Manage Edge Services panel.
Regenerate
Regenerating in place ensures your scanning configuration, ports, etc. stay the same and simplifies the process. Depending on the how your original deployment was completed the regeneration either creates a new key to configure a generic image or builds a custom image that you must install directly.
Note
After May 31st, 2023 any VDR Edge Services based on Ubuntu 18.04 will become a risk factor considering the inability to upgrade. They will continue to work as part of VDR, but it is recommended that you regenerate any Edge Servies to updgrade the underlying Ubuntu version.
If you have deployed Generic Post-Configured ES, do the following:
To Regenerate a VDR Edge Service for Generic Post-Configured Edge Services ⫘
- In VDR, select Settings→System Settings→Edge Services The Manage Edge Services table displays.
- Select the Edge Service you want to regenerate and select the Regenerate button next to it.
Regenerate
The regeneration process begins, and creates a new configuration URL key for your Edge Service. When it completes, a gear button displays in the list. Choose it to retrieve your new configuration URL key.

While the configuration URL is being generated, download the generic Edge Service image that corresponds with your virtualization environment.

Redeploy the Edge Service using the following instructions: Set Up and Deploy Your Edge Service .
To Regenerate a VDR Edge Service for Fully Preconfigured Edge Services ⫘
- In VDR, select Settings→System Settings→Edge Services The Manage Edge Services table displays.
- Select the Edge Service you want to regenerate and select the Regenerate button next to it.
Regenerate
- A Request Edge Service Generation dialog displays. Select Submit.
- Once notified, download the completed image from VDR and deploy following Installing a Fully Preconfigured ES.
